Cairns Post Letters from the Wingnuts #22: A brief aside

It has been a while since I wandered into the morass of stupidity that is Cairns Post Letters from the Wingnuts. Today's Cairns Post included regular correspondent Bill Schutz with a familiar screed of climate change denialism. I may dissect climate change parts of his letter in detail later in the week, but thought I would make one quick comment.

Mr Schutz decided to end his letter with a witty quote. Given Mr Schutz's long history of getting things wrong, I wondered if he would mess that up too. Mr Schutz writes:
I'm reminded of that famous quote from Mark Twain, which says "sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on, or by imbeciles who really mean it" and I wonder about Australia.
A few moments research reveals that this quote is often attributed to Mark Twain but, alas for Mr Schutz, it's not from America's legendary wit. The quote, not attributed to Twain, appears in The Peter Principle: Why things always go wrong, a humorous book by Laurence Peter and Raymond Hull from 1969. Peter has said that it came from one of his students.

Perhaps we should check if Mr Schutz at least gets his address right. Is he really from Mt Sheridan?
