Hey Cairns Post, NOW we are officially on cyclone watch

I've previously expressed a little disappointment with the Cairns Post hyping a tropical low that was never going to come near us by falsely declaring we were "officially on cyclone watch". As expected, that system didn't impact the Queensland coast.

We are, however, now on cyclone watch with a tropical low expected to intensify into a category one cyclone over the next 36-48 hours. The Bureau of Meteorology has it likely crossing the coast somewhere south of Innisfail on Thursday night.

Fortunately it is highly unlikely to strengthen past category one, so the area should be spared another hit like Larry (2006) or Yasi (2011), and the forest should continue their progress toward recovery. It looks like it's all going to be a bit of a non-event, and we'll just get some gales and some heavy rain.

I was previously unfamiliar with the group Oz Cyclone Chasers, but was directed to their YouTube update today. It gives a lengthy discussion of developments as of last night. Check their channel for updates over the next couple of days.
