Bartle Frere

The silhouette of Mount Bartle Frere rising above a banana plantation near Woopen Creek
Cairns may not be the first place that comes to mind when you are asked where Queensland's highest peak would be, but Mount Bartle Frere rises from floodplains south of Cairns to an elevation of 1,622 metres. Our second highest, Mount Bellenden Ker, lies just off to right of the above photo. The two make a rather picturesque backdrop to the drive between Cairns and Innisfail.
