Little pied cormorant

A little pied cormorant (Phalacrocorax melanoleucos) eyes me warily
I took a wander around Centenary Lakes today, in part hoping to spot some kingfishers. I found pacific black ducks, radjah shelducks, white ibises and an intermediate egret, but no kingfishers. I wandered back to the city along Lily Creek and through a bit of the Cairns Central Swamp, disturbed little pied cormorants in a couple of places. Other sightings included a couple more intermediate egrets, a royal spoonbill and a white morph eastern reef egret.

  1. I reckon the local name Burdekin duck always sounded better than radjar shellduck!
