What the?

The race-baiting Republican propoganda machine in the US has recently tried to spin a 2007 Barrack Obama speech as if it was somehow an incendiary racist speech. In discusssing it on Fox News Tucker Carlson, who broke the "exclusive story" is reported to have said one of the most spectacularly stupid things imaginable:
This hasn't been reported before and I should know because I reported on it the first time.
Surely nobody could really say that. It's too stupid. Really, nobody could possibly say that.

Carlson did indeed report on it in 2007. I have watched it repeatedly. I am still staggered. Nobody can say something that stupid.

Can they?
