Local warming

I stumbled across the homogenised dataset of temperatures in Cairns and, out of curiousity, plugged the maximums into Excel to have a look. I had Excel calculate the variation of each day from the average temperature (28.83° celsius), then the average variation in each year, and then plot that information and add a trend line. Here's what came out:

So, after a rough look, we've had about a degree of warming, 2000 seems to have been the last year that we were below average, and 1998 is our hottest year on record followed by 2002, 2010 and 2009. One should note that warming in the tropics is less than in areas further toward the poles.
